Slum Village rocks with Chevy and rolls with Impalas & HHRs!
Somewhere deep in the village is a two-man duo flowing and repping their territorial domain like lions in the den. And not that village in NY, I'm referring to "The Dirty D's” native Slum Village, consisting of underground Hip Hop poets T3 and Elzhi who combine laid back melodies with fly, up-tempo beats orchestrated around quick, thought provoking lyrics. They're an infusion of Nas and Kanye before the big time. And now they can spit about cars all day since they have signed with Chevrolet to rep the 2006 Impala and HHR crossovers.
Known for their aggressive targeting of music groups, GM's most outgoing brand (Chevy) is ecstatic about the newfound relationship. "We're very excited about working with Slum Village on the Impala and HHR spots," said General Manager, Ed Peper. "With the release of Slum's new single EZ UP, we were able to take the Impala -- an iconic vehicle -- and introduce it in an authentic way.” Slum performed at the Chevy sponsored Vibe Awards and are slated for the 2006 Urban Restyln' Salon at the 2006 Washington Auto Show in January.
KR: So why did you two go with Chevy as an auto partner?
T3: I mean, honestly, it was Chevy's approach to using us that made this whole thing work out. They really liked our music, and felt like it was the right kind of music for their campaign.
KR: T3, We've talked about your style of customizing cars before. And you really like to kill it. How would you approach the new Chevys?
T3: For the HHR, I would add reflective paint. Some nice shoes on it, not spinners but maybe spokes. Add some TV's in the floor and in the dash ® to play my commercial of course. You got to make sure the 15” woofers are in the trunk. The Impala is classic and I wouldn't do too much. Maybe TVs in the doors, make the interior all black, with the triple black paint ® make it look like knight rider. Some nice rims and woofers ® it's all set.
KR: What about you Elzhi?
Elzhi: Impala, it's not really much to do, cuz it's an Impala. New shoes and that's it. The car is already a piece of art. The HHR, I'm not really sure on this one ® I'll leave that to my partner.
