Project Gotham Racing 3: Let the Games Begin

Leon L. Brittain, 11.12.05

In the coming weeks, the gaming industry will be turned upside down with the launch of Microsoft’s XBox 360. With the release of this hot new gaming and multi-media platform, several highly anticipated games are set to hit the streets including 50 Cent’s Bulletproof, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, The God Father, Ridge Racer 6, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Project Gotham Racing 3 (PGR 3). Given the flurry of new games coming at us, I’m going to focus on the current platinum status leader -- PGR 3.

The release of the long awaited follow up to the legendary racing simulation giant is set to hit the shelves well in time for the 2005 holiday season. If the actual game lives up to the pre-released video trailers and press hype, its initial shelf life will go faster than Shaq's rap career.

PGR 3 is expected to take the thrill and excitement of racing to a level unimagined with the help of Microsoft's XBox 360. Gamers will have access to 80 authentically modeled supercars with fully modeled interiors, functioning dashboards and individually recorded engine roars. Not only are the graphics expected to blow your mind, the sound quality via 360's Dolby 5.1 surround-sound audio will have you feeling the action. This time around, the makers of PGR 3 (Bizarre Creations) decided to give users quicker access to different cities and higher end cars sooner rather than having to fight your way up the ranks in a vehicle only driven in a video game. After all, its not like most of us will get a chance to get behind the wheel of an Italian supercar in Tokyo, so why should I have to play for hours on end to finally drive the car of my dreams in an exotic city in a video game. Good move Bizarre Creations.

PGR3 still features its Kudos Reward System, so pure speed will not be enough to get you ahead. You will need to bring all of your skills to the table with this joint. Powersliding, airtime, maintaining your lines and drafting will be major factors in your success -- especially if you plan to take your game online with GothamTV. Yes, GothamTV. PGR 3 takes full advantage of world-wide connectivity to let drivers put their aptitude on the line with a global audience. You can chill out and watch others via a live news feed, receive ticker tape information when a record is broken, and compete with anyone, at anytime, absolutely anywhere. If you think you got game, then step up and climb the ranks on your conquest of the worldwide PGR 3 racers. Just be warned -- I'll be the one you'll be chasing.
