TwentySixInch Custom Bikes: Off the Chain, Literally!
Say you’re walking past the store front of the
Hard Rock Gift Shop in Vegas, Nevada and happen to fetch your eyes
upon one of the slickest bicycles known to mankind; it comes off as
sweet but strangely out of this world. Question is, would you drop
$4,500 for the collector’s item? Of course you would! This isn’t
the school yard bike you leave outside the neighborhood corner store
why you nab a bag of Dipsy Doodles. With its old-school flare and
rejuvenated soul, a logical assumption would be that the TwentySixInch
2-wheelers will be treated as the Maserati of bicycles!
Hard at work bending, cutting and welding tubes for their artsy conceptions
are the two man duo of Boogie and Adam Hartley who broke ground in
2003 with the idea of doing something different in the bike world.
“Bicycles are any kids past time and it was only right that
we did something special,” states Boogie, a painter since his
teenage years. TwentySixInch custom bicycles, as the name implies,
fabricates completely tailored, hand-built “Beach Cruiser”
inspired bicycles. All are made to order with your choice of desired
menu options including aluminum pedals, cranks, hydraulic disk brakes,
an endless list of paints and of course 26" Billet Aluminum wheels.
Say what! Yeah, these chumpies stroll on 24’s and 26’s.
There are numerous styles to decipher from; or you can even have its
wheels modified to match your Escalade or H2. The frames can be cut
to fit the size of any customer; whether it’s a set of shorties
or giants like Shaq and the Beanstalk.
Adam and Boogie tagged the company after the original
pre-war 26” Balloon Tire Bicycles such as the 1916 “The
World” made by Schwinn. What is inconsequential about the bikes
are their average going rate of $3,500. Clients are young and have
money so paper isn’t an issue. In fact, Jesse James - without
hyperbole - is a true fan of the cruisers.
What distinctively began as a hobby for the young bicycle tuners
is ending up as a blessing. They’re even building a demo to
outfit a set of 20’ spinners for bikes. As the company would
say “Decide What You Ride.” Log onto www.TwentySixInch.com to order yours.
